Diana meets with Nathan Bates and offers him a deal. If he agrees to install a relay at Science Frontiers, she will grant him unrestricted access through a tunnel in the force field. He will use a four-letter personal access code to open the tunnel at will, allowing him to control everything that enters and leaves the city. Bates agrees to the deal. In order to learn more about the force field, Ham and Mike Donovan kidnap a Visitor soldier who is the head military attache. After interrogating him they learn that the scientist responsible for the creation of the force field is a Visitor named Jacob and he is aboard the Mother Ship. Ham and Mike sneak into the Legation and, disguised as Visitor soldiers, steal a Skyfighter. They head to the Mother Ship to find Jacob so the force field can be destroyed.
As Visitor patrols converge on Ham's and Mike's location, Kyle arrives just in time. Elizabeth is with him, having stowed away in his pickup truck, and Jacob recognizes her instantly thanks to her mark of Xon. The group drives away toward the location of the force field opening, hoping Julie will be able to figure out the code to activate the tunnel in time. Meanwhile at Science Frontiers, Julie sneaks into the computer relay room and tries to guess Bates's secret code. She is discovered by Galen, the Chief Systems Technician who installed the relay. Willie shows up to save Julie, and the diversion enables her to grab Galen's own sidearm and shoot him with it. At the last moment, she figures out that Nathan's secret code is K-Y-L-E and the tunnel in the force field is activated.
Back on the Mother Ship, Diana learns that Lydia has apparently departed in her personal shuttle to reach the Leader and tell him of Diana's incompetence. Diana orders the Mother Ship's weapons to be targeted on Lydia's shuttle, and it is destroyed. Also in this episode, Kyle flirts with Elizabeth and they share a kiss. Later, Robin confides in her daughter that she's in love with Kyle and eventually she kisses Kyle, too. Elizabeth reveals to Kyle that her mother is in love with him, but Kyle makes it clear that he's only interested in Elizabeth. |
